James has been working as an artist and illustrator in Guisborough, Northeast England, since 1991, drawing inspiration from the Moors, Dales and coast. His paintings often return to familiar subjects, invariably finding a fresh view and changing with the season and time of day. He has exhibited his paintings at Kirkleatham Old Hall Museum, Montage Studio Gallery, Darlington Art Gallery, Ormesby Hall, Sunnyfield House Guisborough, Ilkley Winter Gardens, Pinchinthorpe Hall and Inspired By. Gallery, Danby moors Centre, Pannett Art Gallery as guest of The Fylingdales Group of Artists.
James was selected to paint at one of six heats Sky Arts ‘Landscape Artist Of The Year 2015’, at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire. Although he did not manage to make it to the semi final, his Waddesdon painting was selected by the special guest, Raymond Tissot, as his favourite painting of the day.
